A Special COVID-19 Update from Bishop Bob

A Message from your Pastor
Including a Special Message from our Bishop

Good evening friends, and grace and peace to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. I hope you’ve had a good week. I look forward to sharing worship with you this weekend, even though it isn’t Pentecost!! We will, however, spend some time on Sunday morning acknowledging Memorial Day and remembering those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. I will be sending my usual Worship Preparation email tomorrow, which will include your digital bulletin as well as instructions on how to log in for the worship service and other related events.

I write to you this evening because of the announcement made by the President of the United States earlier today regarding the “reopening” of places of worship in our country. When I heard his announcement, the first thing I thought was “We never closed…so how can we reopen?” Of course we all know what he meant: he wants places of worship to resume in-person worship in spite of the documented risks that have been shared by numerous health care providers and other public health officials in this country.

I also fully expected our Bishop would respond to the President’s announcement, and sure enough, I received that this evening. Click here to view our Bishop’s letter in its entirety.

In his letter, Bishop Bob reiterated what he wrote to us all earlier this week, which you can also read by clicking hereIn that letter, our Bishop directed the churches in the Desert Southwest Conference to continue suspending in-person worship and other gatherings of all sizes until further notice. He also asked that churches begin the process of having conversations and making plans to reinstate in-person worship when the time is right and it is safe to do so. We at Song of Life have gathered together a team of church members from various ministries and have begun that process. We anticipate releasing a survey to all of you in the near future to determine your opinions with regard to reinstating in-person worship, even though we don’t yet know when that will occur, so please watch this space for that survey.

Please know that our utmost responsibility and desire is to make sure we have put the proper processes and procedures in place with the ultimate goal of keeping you as safe as possible once we are instructed by our Bishop that we can begin the process of reinstating in-person worship as well as in-person gatherings and group meetings. In the meantime, we will continue providing worship online as well as meetings and groups via Zoom.

As always, we continue praying for you and ask that you continue to pray for your church, the first responders, the health care workers, and those adversely affected by this virus, especially those who grieve the loss of loved ones or friends. We will continue to keep you informed and look forward to the time when we can gather together in one place, just as the early church did on that first day of Pentecost, which we will celebrate on May 31!!

Grace and Peace,
Pastor Jody
