What a joy is was to share this Pentecost Sunday with all of you!! We had a good showing of folks in our Sanctuary for the second time since the Pandemic began last March, and a number of folks joined us online as well. We’re still working out some of our technological “bugs” but bear with us…we’ll get there!
During worship we included several important announcements, including our Annual Conference Mission Project and our upcoming “Half Truths” short term study. In this email you’ll find important information about both of these items.
Annual Conference Mission Project
This year’s Annual Conference Mission Project will provide much-needed assistance to college students in need of help. More information about the needs our students face is included here: Student Needs
The Conference is asking churches to collect $20 Visa Gift Cards (Visa is preferred) that will be distributed between the Wesley Foundation chapters at the four University’s served by the DSCUMC. These cards will then be further distributed to students in need.
To contribute to this vital need, bring gift cards to church on Sundays, OR you may make a financial contribution to our 2021 AC Mission Project fund, which is now available in our online giving system. Financial gifts by cash or check are also gratefully accepted. Please designate your financial gift to “2021 AC Mission Project.”
Half Truths Study Group
Beginning the week of June 6, Pastor Jody will lead a 5-week study called “Half Truths” based on the book of the same title by Rev. Adam Hamilton. This study will also parallel her sermon series of the same name.
In this series and study, we will look at 5 statements which some hold near and dear, and in some cases, even believe they are actually in the Bible. Spoiler Alert: they’re not. On Amazon.com, they say about the book:
“They are simple phrases. They sound Christian—like something you might find in the Bible. We’ve all heard these words. Maybe we’ve said them. They capture some element of truth, yet they miss the point in important ways.”
To help us with scheduling our study group meetings, please fill out this questionnaire before Friday, June 4: Half Truths Study Questionnaire
One Last Thing…
I will be taking a few days off this week – my last of this appointment year – in order to take care of some household tasks. If you have a pastoral care need, please contact Robena in the office at or by phone at 480-641-1200. My dear friend, Rev. Joshua Warner, will preach on Sunday, May 30 in my place.
Grace & Peace, Pastor Jody
