COVID-19 Update #9 for 3/26/2020
Good evening all! I hope this email finds all of you well and making the best of extreme social distancing. I have to say, I really miss hanging out with the good folks at my usual Starbucks coffee shops, and often think to myself “I think I’ll go to Starbucks” then remember that I can’t…it’s quite disappointing.
I’d like to share a few things we’ve been working on over the last couple of days…but before I do, I’d like us all to say a quick prayer for each other. I know this is a difficult time, but from what I’ve heard from our CCMs (Congregational Care Ministers), most of you are weathering this storm quite well. I would like to mention, however, that if any of you do become ill, please let me know, either through your CCM or by contacting me directly (you probably have my phone number by now). We will of course keep your condition confidential, but I (and I know your church family) will want to keep you in prayer if you’re dealing with any health concerns, whether related to COVID-19 or not. So let’s all take a moment and pray…
Now for a quick update:
Sunday Worship & Fellowship
This Sunday we’re going to try something rather unique…it might not work, but I really hope it does. At 8:30 AM we will open up a Zoom Room for anyone who wants to log in and visit with others from the congregation. Instructions on how to do this will be sent to you on Saturday. The room will be open until about 9:20, when we’ll ask you to transition over to Worship.
Speaking of worship, while we have been and will be experimenting with some different technology and applications since last Sunday, it is likely you will access Sunday’s worship service via Facebook Live again this coming Sunday. There may be some additional enhancements which we will communicate on Saturday, but for now, set a reminder for Sunday at about 9:15, when we anticipate being “live.” I will send out the Digital Bulletin on Saturday.
Koinonia Study Group
We are setting up a Zoom study time with the Koinonia Study group to start this weekend. Joe H. and Dean W. will host an introductory Zoom meeting on Saturday, and the study group will occur about 30 minutes after worship ends. If you would like to join the group this weekend, please contact either Joe or Dean. If you need their contact information, please call the office tomorrow between 10 AM and 2 PM.
Worship Suspension Extended
I also wanted to share with you that our Bishop has asked the churches of the Desert Southwest Conference to remain suspended for in-person worship through April 16 at least. That means we will celebrate Easter in a state of social distancing. That makes me sad, but we’ll figure out a way to make it a special day; after all, we will be celebrating the Resurrection of our Lord! It’s a special day, whether we are “all in one place” or not!!
Life Line Screening Cancelled
In case you were scheduled for a medical screening with Life Line tomorrow, please note that, earlier today, they contacted us to let us know their corporate office has cancelled all screenings at least through the month of April. We have tentatively rescheduled for September.
Parents of Teens…
If you’re interested in the Harbor materials from Jostens, we have a login username and password to get the materials for free. If you would like the username & password, please contact me either by email or phone.
I think that’s all I have for this evening. I miss you all terribly and look forward to the time when we can come together again. God bless and take care of yourselves,
