Pentecost Sunday! Don’t Forget to Wear Red!

Tomorrow we will celebrate Pentecost…the birthday of the church! In celebration, we ask that you wear red (if you have it) and watch for signs of the Holy Spirit in our worship space! If you are worshiping from home, you can send us a picture of you in your red outfits. Just email your photos to .

Tomorrow is also communion Sunday. If you are worshiping from home, please have your communion elements (crackers or bread, juice or water) ready. We will receive communion after we give thanks for our offerings.

If you are attending worship in person, we have a big favor to ask of you. As you know, during the 9:30 and 11am services we are livestreaming the entire service. You will notice we use iPads placed in the center of the front row of chairs…those are our cameras. Here is the favor:

  • First, before, during and after worship, please avoid walking in front of the cameras while we are broadcasting…typically during the Prelude at 9:30 and the first Praise Song at 11:00.
  • Second, at the beginning and the end of the 9:30 service, please do not disturb our pianist, Anita, as she is concentrating on playing and we want to make sure our online worshipers are not only hearing her music but they are also able to watch her play. At the end of worship, if you would like to greet her, she will meet you out on the patio.

Here are the bulletins for this morning:

To join us for worship online…

Our Traditional (9:30am) and Praise (11:00am) services will be livestreamed as usual tomorrow morning. Join us about 5-10 minutes before these services when we will “go live.” Here’s the link: Online Worship

Our Sermon Series on Revelation will continue next week. We will continue our exploration of Revelation by looking at the signs and symbols found in Chapters 6-12.

This series is inspired by the book Breaking the Code, originally written by theologian Bruce M. Metzger. A partner study, using the book and featuring video presentations by Rev. David DeSilva is being offered on Tuesdays at 10:30 am in the Sanctuary. Our weekly sessions are also being recorded and posted for later viewing. The Revised and Updated Edition of Breaking the Code is available from many booksellers in both paperback and electronic versions. Reading the book is not a requirement for this series but might be helpful as we explore the Book of Revelation, one of the most misunderstood books of the Bible.

A Message on School Violence
Last week, Pastor Jody received an email from Rev. Adam Hamilton that included the text of a letter he sent to his congregation in Leawood, KS and sample letters that can be personalized and sent to state and federal legislators and Congress people. We are including both Pastor Adam’s letter and the samples he included here, in both Word and PDF formats. We encourage you to read what Pastor Adam sent to his own congregation, as it mirrors much of what Pastor Jody said last Sunday at the beginning of worship. We also urge you to consider writing or calling your state representatives and/or federal Congress people expressing your concerns regarding gun violence, especially in our schools. Here are the documents in Word and PDF formats
